Robbie Hunter (Robert Owen Hunter) is one of the most influential figures in the history of African cycling. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he enjoyed a distinguished professional career from 1999 to 2013, establishing himself as one of the world's leading sprinters while paving the way for future generations of African riders.

Hunter made history in 2001 as the first South African to start the Tour de France, before achieving another landmark in 2007 by becoming the first African rider to win a stage of the Tour de France. His palmarès also includes two stage victories at the Vuelta a España, overall victory at the Tour of Qatar, the points classification at the Tour de Suisse, multiple victories and podium finishes in prestigious international races, and three appearances at the Olympic Games representing South Africa.

Since retiring from professional racing, Hunter has remained deeply involved in the sport as a directeur sportif, athlete manager, mentor and cycling ambassador. Through his work developing and representing riders, he continues to play a key role in the growth of African cycling, sharing the experience and leadership gained from a career that helped redefine the continent's place in professional cycling.
